Do you feel without the addition of online play and good multiplayer the evolution of video games would have stalled? In the same sense, would the single player stories of games been as good as games like Bioshock and Mass Effect? MORE DISCUSSION -->

I was curious of what people thought about this. Of course online multiplayer has changed the way games are amde and played but do you think we would be as far if it wasnt for the multiplayer and if it wasnt for this do you feel that more games would have an immersive story and campaign like Bioshock or Mass Effect. LETS DISCUSS MORE IN DEPTH OUT OF ANSWER AS WELL AS IN ANSWERS!!!

look the plain out truth games would die within weeks without online , COD4 would have crashed without online , so would RSV2. you can say what you want but gaming is made up of online . DEAL WITH IT!

true but those games were made with MP in mind from the start, but look at games like MGS 4, FF 7, the zelda games, mario, gran turismo, how many of these games are still played even after years of being put out, while an online game while fun, after the next great MP experience comes out, most people wont play them. so while MP def brought gaming to the limelight. it didnt exactly brought more innovation per se.

Incorrect, darkreverse. You only say that because you don't know a world without online multiplayer. Gaming was around and strong a long time without online multiplayer. Games stayed around for a lot longer than a few weeks and many are STILL around and still only have singleplayer. Multiplayer was a huge evolution in gaming, but it isn't a make or break feature.

I think that companies would put more recourses towards the single player aspect of the game than they do now. I think that games that have ok single player but good online would have great or really good single player. Sometimes I think there is too much focus for online play. but yea Weezers right. I remember the days of passing the controler back and forth between stages with a friend. Those were the days.
