Also, I'd have to disagree with the author's logic. First, movies have a larger installed base. Think about it, do your parents and grandparents play games? Do they watch movies? If they're anything like mine, they do the latter but not the former. Also, it's really a different business. Movies use one or two universal consumer formats which any company can make a player for, at a tidy profit. In the game business, each company makes their own console for their own format, and they take a loss on each console sold, assuming they'll make it up when they sell five or so games (on average) to go with that console. Therefore, if they were to lower the price, they'd have to sell more games to start making money on the console, but they're selling to a market ultimately smaller than the DVD market. Plus the developers need paid and have to cover their budget. Movies cover their budget through theatre sales, merchandising, and home format sales. While there is some merchandizing of video games, it does not compare to movies, leaving only home sales to pay back developers.

I am starting to cut back on good titles and wait for them to drop in their price. With the exception of MGS4 (i would never pass this game up and i do feel the game was a steal for 60) I have not payed for a 60 dollar game since christmas. I'm not fucking kidding i've gone about 6 months and passed up exceptional titles for the price to drop. even in the last 6 months i've bought only 2 games. MGS4 and GT5.
I'm sorry for this rant but this has just been on my mind for a good time now.

at one point the standard was $50 and that was it for years.
On Pc that loss on making hardware does not exist. You can get call of duty 4 for $40 and you get the map pack with broadcast and other maps for Free.
Microsoft charges $10 for the call of duty 4 map pack to cover there cost. On Pc there is no cost. So total you pay $70.
UT3 cost $60 on consoles while on PC you can get UT3 and every single game in the unreal series for $49.99, _
and there xbox live subscription that Microsoft also charges for it's loss on making xbox 360's while you play on Pc Free.
http://steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=sub&SubId=683&cc=US
So over time you are paying for the loss microsoft makes on the console and more than the console hardware is worth since you are being charged bit by bit of cost $10 overhead everytime you buy a game, and all the other crap they charge you for to cover there loss.
The PC is free and open and does not have these cost you buy games straight from the game maker there is no loss ans sinc they do not have to Put up for microsoft, sony or nintendo adding to there cost for there money loss on hardware and to print there disc and pay to be part of the console "Club"
they can sell game sfor next to nothing or half price the same games for $39.99 or even $29.99 is not uncommon.

Every game I have purchased since then I bought used (that doesn't include those that were gifted to me). I think I have spent an average of $25-30 per game or even less in the last few years.

However, what really gets me is that when you trade in (even a new game!) you get like 10-30% of what it's worth, so sometimes becareful of what you buy, because chances are you're going to get a small amount of money back.

User deleted answered 11 months ago • ReplyIt doesn't concern me as much. I usually end up getting used games, because of the discount offered by a Gamestop membership card. Games that are like $50 bucks I end up paying $40 or $30. If I buy something new, I end up paying the full price, doesn't really annoy me.

BrandAid1138 answered 11 months ago • Replyi don't feel used because i usually research my big purchases before I go to the store. and i usually trust reviews too (IGN and GI). I used to go out and just pick up the game, but have learned my lesson since then and will try to be patient for the good games i want and that are out there.
